RP summer camp brings pets and kids together

As the school year draws to a close, many Rohnert Park families start looking for day camps and activities to keep kids interested in learning throughout the summer months. Many parents find their choices limited to the same sports or craft camps offered at the YMCA or the Community Center. While these are useful, it tends to be the same kind of curriculum found in school, which can underwhelm a kid who’s looking for something different during their vacation months.

The Sitting Room celebrates a special Memorial Day for women authors

Traditional Memorial Day festivities haven’t yet begun, but the ladies at The Sitting Room aren’t interested in traditional. On Sunday, May 21, they held their annual reading of work by women authors who’ve died within the last year, along with a reading of selected obituaries. Started in 1981, The Sitting Room in Penngrove is a privately funded library with a collection of books and resources that focus on women’s issues and achievements.

During Rohnert Park City Council meeting protestors unexpectedly take center stage

Anywhere from 10 to 15 people were clutching two separate sheets of paper with printed statements in their hands, one was green, reading “BRANCH WROTH ANOTHER NEEDLESS DEATH AT THE HANDS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT” and the other was yellow, reading simply “COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT NOW.”. There was one woman who stood at the back of the room with a much larger sign with a drawing depicting two policemen and a person crouched over on the ground – one of the officers was shown to be striking the individual with a club, while the other was using an electric Taser.
